HIV/Aids is treated the same as other illnesses in terms of employee policies and benefits. TLF provides reasonable support programs when needed for the affected members of staff and beneficiaries. Everyone at TLF must adhere to the non-discrimination policy.

HIV Testing, Confidentiality and Disclosure

TLF encourages routine confidential, voluntary testing and counseling as part of the education and awareness programs. HIV/Aids is treated confidentially as other medical conditions, in accordance to the country's laws. TLF does not require its members and employees to undergo HIV testing as a condition of employment or a condition to receive benefits.

Promoting a Safe Work Environment

TLF is committed to providing a work environment that protects colleagues, health and safety. The commitment recognizes that HIV/Aids cannot be transmitted through casual contact. Employees who know the facts about HIV infections and AIDs are less likely to react negatively or inappropriately to a colleagues illness. TLF manages the risk of HIV infection in the workplace through:

Appropriate training, awareness and education on the use of infection co

ntrol measures.

Provision of appropriate equipment and materials to protect colleague from the risk of exposure to HIV in the performance of their work.

Appropriate HIV/Aids information included in occupational health and first-aid training.

Education and Awareness

TLF is concerned about the wellness of our colleagues, their families and our community at large. The NGO provides benefits and programs that have an important role in preserving the dignity of those who are infected & affected by HIV/Aids. These serve to help them maintain normal and productive lives:

Training for managers and supervisors to communicate and ensure compliance with our HIV/Aids policy.

Access to print, video and computer-based communication strategies to promote; medically, accurate, relevant information on HIV/Aids prevention and treatment.

Information on safe sexual practices, prevention of sexual transmitted diseases and overall health promotion.

Information on voluntary HIV/Aids testing, referral and counselling services.

Where appropriate, measures to encourage the use and increased availability of condoms.

Access to Treatment and Care

Individuals who test positive for HIV can be production for a long time of they received the right treatment and medical support. We believe that our employees and members should have access to treatment regimes requiring anti-retroviral and anti-infectives.
