Dumping, pollution and smoking are still a cause for concern in Tshwane. Nearly 70% of the open spaces and parks are being used for dumping waste, smoking of illegal drugs, and polluting in and around the Tshwane.

Tshwane Leadership Foundation (TLF) developed a clean-up campaign to spread awareness and to educate the Salvokop community about the effects of air pollution, waste dumping and smoking to the environment, with the theme being #BeatAirPollution. This was the ninth annual clean-up campaign event.

Children aged between 7 and 18 were taken out in groups to help clean the Salvokop area and participate in the on-going campaign. The Children allow with the other community stakeholders went out to clean the open spaces and their schools while educating the children on the effecting of air pollution and the danger of smoking drugs.

More than 800 children participated in the campaign. The City of Tshwane provided refuse bags and a waste collection truck to assist with the clean-up. Other organizations that took part in the event assist by providing hand gloves, hand wash liquids, masks, and a small meal with refreshments for all participants. Jopie Fourie Primary school and Inkululeko pre-school learners actively participated.

The school children showed much love for the environment. Some even shared tips on how to keep the environment clean. The head of department from Joupie Fourie primary school, Bridget Ford said; ' the day was a success, children enjoyed the activities and they were very excited to participate'.
